Description : Interleukin-17A (IL-17A) is a proinflammatory cytokine produced by Th17 cells. IL-17 regulates the activities of NF-kappaB and mitogen-activated protein kinases and stimulates the expression of IL6 and cyclooxygenase-2 (PTGS2/COX-2), as well as the production of nitric oxide (NO). IL-17A stimulates the production of the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1?, TNF-? and IL-6, and induces production of the neutrophil chemoattractants IL-8, CXCL1 and CXCL6. IL-17A is intimately involved in mucosal immunity against bacterial infections and has a putative role in some autoimmune disorders.
The rat IL-17A cDNA encodes a 150 aa protein with a 17 aa signal sequence. Human, mouse and rat IL-17A show activity on mouse cells. Recombinant rat IL-17A produced from E. coli is a homodimeric, non-glycosylated polypeptide containing 268 amino acids and has a molecular weight of 30 kDa.
